A successful Green Dragons Den!

After weeks of preparation during class time, 7 primary schools attended the ‘Green Dragon’s Den’ at Troup Bywaters + Anders head office to pitch their climate ideas…

At the end of April,  more than 50 students from 7 primary schools took part the Green Dragons Den event, organised by the Camden Climate Alliance, Think and Do Camden and Camden Learning.

Primary schools joined the morning or afternoon session and rotated a number of different interactive workshops before heading into the ‘den’ to pitch their proposal to a friendly panel of dragons and ask for either a £100, £300 or £500 grant to help fund their project.

When students weren’t pitching they were taking part in sessions where they learnt about:

  • Rewilding and biodiversity with Transition Kentish Town
  • Air pollution and air quality with Camden Clean Air Initiative
  • Waste and Recycling with Veolia and;
  • what a career in sustainability might look like with developer Berkeley Group

The panel of dragons included the Mayor of Camden, Cllr Nasim Ali OBE; Camden Deputy Youth MP, Hdayet Otaky; Camden Council’s Cabinet Member for Best Start for Children and Families, Cllr Marcus Boyland, as well as representatives from Troup Bywaters + Anders and Think & Do Camden.

A special thanks to our businesses: Troup Bywaters + Anders, 3 Verulam Buildings, Clearcast and Media Insurance Brokers who provided grant funding totalling more than £3,000 to help the schools deliver the projects – we’re looking forward to seeing the projects come to before the end of the summer term and in the new academic year!
